SFD has confirmed The Working Centre will be getting CDs and some material for Software Freedom Day. Besides a number of talks on Free Software we're having talks on living on less money and will be giving away a number of computers with Linux installed on them. More soon...

September 20th, 2008 - Software Freedom Day Report...

Despite a very late start (we announced our participation the Tuesday before Software Freedom Day) we had 19 people show up for our event. Most came in to check out the AMD Athlon XP 2600+ we gave away to one lucky person, John Faulkner. John also happens to be one of our long standing volunteers - volunteering paid off for him that day.

We didn't have swag to give out, but we burned about 30 Linux CDs, and gave out a few. Next year we're planning ahead. We'd like to make this a much larger event with more speakers and give aways. A number of other groups had sponsors, it would be nice to have any local (Kitchener) organizations interested in co-sponsoring the event contact us before the next event: Charles McColm <charlesm@theworkingcentre.org>.

We're always offering Linux at The Working Centre's Computer Recycling Project and always looking for volunteers with Linux experience.

We're located at 66 Queen Street South, but only open on the door on the Charles Street side of the building. We have a Computer Recycling sign on the Charles Street entrance beside the door. Across the street is Full Circle Foods. We're conveniently located just down the street from the Kitchener bus terminal.

Google Maps shows our 66 Queen location, but be sure to come to the Charles Street side door (see photo).
