Clarkson University's Clarkson Open Source Institute (COSI) will be participating in the Software Freedom Day. COSI is located on the third floor of the Science Center at Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY (St. Lawrence County). St. Lawrence County is home to four universities--Clarkson University, SUNY Potsdam, SUNY Canton, and St. Lawrence University.

We will be inviting members of our campus, neighboring schools', and local area communities to try out FOSS in our newly renovated computer labs. We will demonstrate a lot of typical personal desktop applications (word processing, web browsing, e-mail clients, Linux and possibly other FOSS operating systems), and if there is interest demonstrate a few productivity applications that may be useful to small businesses. We are hoping to get individuals and local businesses interested in this event. Of course, for SFD "After Hours", we will play a few rounds of the popular FOSS game, Tremulous.

In addition to this demonstration, we will be giving away gifts/CDs and welcoming people back to the labs or to e-mail us if they would like any of us to provide free support for the use of FOSS. But, who knows? We might even organize a campus parade with someone dressed in a large Tux mascot outfit, and where we will give away CDs instead of candy (we, of course, will be the ones eating the candy).
