For Birmingham!
If you can attend I suggest you come wearing some kind of Linux T-shirt. I should have two free large official Software Freedom Day T-shirts, but I guess that may not be enough.
The Plan for the Day
- Meet up at the Floozy in the Jacuzzi. That's the big statue at the non-bullring end of new street.
- Put on a T-shirt, silly hat and hand out CDs
- Maybe pub once we are done....
The Plan
- Get CD's : Hopefully Ubuntu and The Open CD. Maybe bring a laptop, and a stack of CD's so we can burn more off if required.
- Produce Some kind of leaflet : I know the Ubuntu-UK guys are working on something that we *may* be able to use
- Get a pitch : We need tables, posters and a venue. I was thinking either near the Bull Ring or near the Central Library. Lots of people, not all computer enthusiasts but may be interested in free stuff.
- Get nibbles : Food usually attracts people, sweets of some kind of offer out and attract attention.
Those Who Can Help
If you could write your name down here, with how you'd like to contribute. (ie how long on the day). A contact email would also be great.
- Ciaran Mooney - All Day (ciaran/./mooney/at/gmail/./com )
- Zeth Green - 2pm-4pm
- Philip Harper - 2pm-4pm (may also have some CD's with open source software to give out)
- Suntish Narain
- Richard Rothwell (richardr/at/m6-it/./org)
Update
So far I have rang various people at Birmingham City Council, to try and find out how we can set this up. After speaking to her she sent me an email containing ;
Please can you send more details of your event, i.e. what you intend to do, how it will be conducted, who is involved, where (High Street area A) and when (15 Sep 07)?
There were two documents attached,
A big problem is the fact that to hand out leaflets may require a £250 license each, as we are not part of any religious or political group or a charity. I may be able to get around this if a Charity was wishing to support us.
