A report by Sivabalan
Hello all,
- Software Freedom Day was celebrated today at MIT in a simple but
joyous way with talks, snacks and games..
- The gathering of about 50 students from MIT had their first taste
of FOSS, through an introductory talk given by Mr.Raman, then followed by Amachu who added a touch of humor to the proceedings with his talk on FOSS in education.. Both Raman and Amachu explained what Software Freedom Day was all about in their own unique way.
- Sudharsan from Andal Azhagar College of Engineering enlightened
the group on how one could contribute to FOSS while Sanjeev, Ponnusamy and Prakash of NRCFOSS answered queries from curious students.
- The talks were followed by video presentations taken from the web
which brought out the uniqueness and power of GNU/Linux and FOSS.
- After snacks being served, the students were allowed to play with
open source through multiplayer games like open arena, frozen-bubble 2 and racing games such as vdrift and torcs. Additional games played were pingus, tuxmath and blobby volley 2.
- A special thanks goes to Rajeev of NRCFOSS for helping out with
configuration and testing of the games.
- And I thank Dr.Srinivasan, NRCFOSS for providing the seminar hall
at AU-KBC for conducting the talks and presentations.
- Overall feedback from the students was overwhelming and that proved
the event a grand success in spreading the message of FOSS.
