Events Planned: Similar to 2005, but with some minor changes
Software Demonstrations, PC lab for hands on use and cd handouts, screening of Revolution OS. We will be demonstrating FOSS for the Windows platform. We will also have a variety of Distros on hand, which will be burnt on demand. We will also have an installfest type section for those wanting to have a go at installing Linux and would like a little assistance. Through out the day we will be screening the documentary "Revolution OS". We will also have a hardware display showing Linux friendly hardware as well as Linux on older low spec systems and laptops. It is anticipated that the local Computer Store will have an exhibit on the day as well. The venue for this year will be the Queenstown Online Access Centre which is co located in the State Library/Tafe Building. There will also be a few systems running Linux displaying the state of gaming on Linux We have also been playing with Xgl on several distros and will be showing it off during the day for those that have a penchant for eye candy. We have secured the support of local computer store "West Coast Computers" who have agreed to loan a couple of state of the art computers dual core cpu, nvidia sli enabled systems so we can demonstrate how well modern Linux distros work with new hardware. We willalso have 5 windows pc's setup to show of the Open source apps that run on the windows platform, NVU, Open office, The Gimp and so on.
