Software Freedom Day 2006 event
It was time for yet another Software Freedom Day. The balloons were ordered and the volunteers were notified. On the day itself we met at Strøget (central shopping street in the middle of Copenhagen), and put up our little booth. We had only received 200 CDs from SFD (because of all the new teams who also needed supplies), but fortunately we had about 400 Ubuntu CDs stored in the basement from March - so in 2 hours we handed out about 600 Ubuntu CDs and a whole lot of balloons. The good thing about the old Ubuntu CDs was, that we had for PCs, for 64-bit and for Macs. This allowed us to get much more in touch with people for a chat about open source in general.
Young people, old people even a lot of tourists wanted our CDs. In comparrison with 2004 and 2005, many people was allready aware of open source and knew what it was. A nice development.
Our volunteers had a great time. The weather was great and our spirits even better. Thanks again for a fun Software Freedom Day 2006!

Software Freedom Day 2005 event
800 CD's gone in 1.5 hour!:
We were lucky enough to receive 1000 CD's from SFD - but in true SFD spirit we sent 200 of them to the other Danish team in Vejle, along with a couple of t-shirts and balloons - so they had something to hand out. We had some problems with the Danish postal office - so we dont know yet if they received them in time - we really hope so!
The SFD event in Copenhagen, was located in a public square on the biggest shopping street in Copenhagen (Strøget). We had about 30 helpers, 800 balloons, 800 CD's and a permit for 2 hours. Our goal was to hand out at least 500 CD's in 2 hours - and we beat that!!!
In little over one hour all the CD's were gone and shortly after we ran out of helium for the balloons
People came searching for us, because they had seen our balloons all the way down Strøget...
People were very interested including the tourists, so the atmosphere was really good. One of the local IT unions (thank you PROSA) had sponsored coffee to all the helpers and one of the helpers (thank you Sam-data) showed up with a huge box of cake (Danish pastry) so we started the event with small talk and breakfast
All in all - a very successfull SFD event
If we have to name a couple of lessons learned for this year it should be: We lacked an explaining flier telling more about Open Source, and where to get more help. We should have put a URL on the T-shirt - also we talked about creating a Danish website - where people could get more info in Danish. [edit]
Software Freedom Day 2004 event
Update: Our Local event was a huge success!
We handed out 300 CD's in little less than an hour.... We also had 500 balloons promoting the day, and we gave out balloons to every stroller, child and adult who wanted one - in fact people came over to our booth asking for free balloons....
The balloons were red with white text, saying Software Freedom Day 2004 on the front and having penguin footprints on the back.
We had help from about 25 volunteers, a large Tux, a little Tux and a daemon
All the volunteers were wearing red t-shirts with white text, saying Software Freedom Day 2004 on the front and "Free Software er foran" at the back. The text in Danish has two meanings, first "Free Software is at the frontier" (we are ahead), second - you could get your free copy of the CDs, at the front of the person wearing the t-shirt....
It was very fun - and its not the last time we are willing to do this!
