Software Freedom Day 05
Currently we are working out the plans for the day (September 10, 2005). Other teams from India with maximum registered teams in Kerala.
On 25th August we discussed about the possible activities that could be taken up by the team and some of the activities we are going to do are
[This is a tentative list and we can select those which are more likely to be successful and we can chuck out others]
Discussions are open on blug-non-tech and fsug-bangalore mailing lists.
on 4th Septemebr we met at Woody's Reastaurant at Jayanagar to discuss the plans. See more about the BoF
1. SFD celebrations in Campuses SFD team of Bangalore proposes to go to colleges to spread awareness of the importance of freedom and co-operartion by organizing SFD celebrations there. Co-ordinators: (Volunteer to be one) List of participating colleges
- Fill in your college name here
2. FLOSS In Education See more about it in FOSS Community India wiki 3. Advocacy (Articles/Talks) on FOSS Encourage ppl[studentas and professionals alike] to write about FOSS and collect them and publish on a site. Also encourage students to put up messages on notice boards, school/college magazines, newspapers etc. Another ideas is to get regular columnists (like Anand Parthasaradhi) to write about Software freedom Day. We can offer free entry to FOSS.IN to some selected articles and also get some other interesting prizes (sponsorship)
Laxminarayan Kamath was suggesting on fsf-india mailing list that someone do a talk on 91 FM. Can we get some one to talk on SFD ?
One Easy way of doing it would be sending SMS to Radio City on SFD . If they get a lot of SMSes they will definitely have to talk about it and it is very easy for each of us but make sure every one sends SMS on SFD Day.

4. Conduct quizzes on FOSS and the commmunity To spread awareness and get more people interested in FOSS. Co-ordinators: (Volunteer to be one)
5. Demo and Install Fests Some say it is no more a priority but still there are people who need help in this. May be we just need to get them on track and they'll get on their own. Somebody suggested a session in Cubbon park. Anyone has got an idea as to how to go about it ? Co-ordinators: (Volunteer to be one)
6. BoFs Talk on GNU/Hurd (There is a live CD) GNU(s) Grazing and Blug meet Debunking some myths like 'How can it be stable and free to change at the same time ?' Co-ordinators: (Volunteer to be one)
7. Blog Agregation for SFD Get the blogs on SFD aggregated to a single place like planet.debian.org Co-ordinators: (Volunteer to be one)
8. Guest Book for SFD To record how the participants feel about the celebrations.
9. Points to stress May not be an isolated item. It is important along with all other activities too.
- message of working together
- Finding out things for yourself
- Come up with new ideas
Co-ordinators: (Volunteer to be one). I guess Atul Chitnis has got something more to say here
10. Bring glugs and SFD teams across India together Have a common wiki for all SFD teams across the country and link varous glugs/lugs to the SFD Teams. It can go hand in hand with FOSS.IN's efforts.
Co-ordinators: (Volunteer to be one).
11. Create a Free Software CD Database Well, It may not seem an important one but when the bandwidth is not good (also can save money) it is better to share the CDs already downloaded. This will have a list of the recnt distros and those who have the CDs can give their addresses so that others can collect it too. Also request for some CDs can be put up.

Comments
AC> I would say that we need to set up realistic goals for the short time available to us before SFD. Many of the above idea are great in principle, but execution is going to eat into available time. Choose specific goals/objectives. Fancy infrastructure isn't going to make things any easier at this point, but real action (like contacting the colleges and getting people active inside) would be much more benefitial.
PA>This is an 'either or' list as of yet (I went home this weekend so this is the first day after blug meet for me to do something other than thinking about ideas, so let me focus on some of this in the coming days).
