Planning for Software Freedom Day, Saturday September 20th at EYEBEAM, time tba (We should probably have 2 pages, one for the public info on the event, and one for planning, maybe make the participants list it's own page too.)
Format:
- Either a small event at EYEBEAM in the style of a meeting and limited to about 25 people, or a larger networking/mixer event to be held at Limewire with a DJ. Either event will have talks from representatives of each area group working with software freedom, basically informal status reports. The smaller meeting would be more of a planning and brainstorming session, the larger one would be more of a party.
- If we go with Eyebeam it would be informally held in conjunction with the last exhibit at their current location "Untethered" which highlights the difference between proprietary vs open networks embodied in objects d'art. It was suggested to have a raffle of free software embedded devices which would also tie in with the Eyebeam show, but would probably work better for a larger crowd (ie having it at Limewire.)
Sponsors:
- The event will be co-sponsored by the Software Freedom Law Center, the Community Free Software Group, and of course Eyebeam or Limewire (check for their exact requirements as to official sponsorship status.)
Location Info:
Eyebeam- Hans is a resident at Eyebeam and so will fill out the official form, it may be associated with their Open Culture Research Group. If it is held after 6pm at Eyebeam we would have to have an RSVP list, probably not a problem since the room we have been offered only holds about 25 people.
Limewire- I do not know who our contact at Limewire is, Remy/Aaron can you let us know?
Participants
- A list of potential/participating groups follows below. After each person representing a group has spoken it should be opened up so that anyone can share a story or insight about Software Freedom.
Publicity:
- This is *kind of* the important part. As such we should have a list of places/lists to publicise the event, and of course talk about it wildly on Twitter/Identica with tags. Suggested tag: SFD2008 ? Good enough or is there a better one to use? Or am I painting a bike shed here?
Program:
- Forest will volunteer to put the program together. This will include sponsors, participants etc, I think each group should be given the opportunity to submit a piece of content for the program such as a statement, or just their logo. Please send all suggestions for anything you think should be included in the program to Forest.
Misc. Logistics:
- A projector should be on hand for anyone that wants to include slides, and it would be nice to have some sort of projected media during the event.
Raffle:
- We need a list of potential donors for the raffle, I don't have emails handy for Bre (NYCresistor) or Philip (MakeNYC). I'll ask Alicia to contact Bre and get Philip's email from Charles Hope. Obviously we will need more contact names for raffle donations leads. Does anyone know Lady Ada to ask?

How does this look to everyone, thoughts...?
