Hi .....
This email is about an event that will be showcasing a range of free software in Mount Gambier.
Software Freedom Day is an international event where teams across the globe hold similiar events on the same day. The purpose is to showcase free and open source software and to demonstrate that it is, in many cases, a viable but little heard about option for community organisations, students, businesses and for that matter everyone else. This software is allowed to be copied and distributed to friends, clients and associates at no charge and without breaching copyright law.
As an example, free software is important to Grant High School because it means that students can continue with their learning outside of school at no cost.
This year will be our groups 3rd event & after last years very successful event held at Penola High School we have decided to host it back in Mount Gambier. The event will be held at Grant High School on the 19th of September 2009 starting at 10:00am.
Amongst the exhibits on the day
- Demonstration of Open Office software for Windows and Linux
- For the kids and the kids at heart - some free games including Planet Penguin Racer (this has been a hit item at other events)
- Demonstration of a variety of other programs for drawing, communication, web browsing, email and multimedia
- Demonstration of Ubuntu Linux (A free alternative to Windows)
We will have CD's containing some of this free software to give away as well as information about how to access them and more via the internet.
More information about Software Freedom Day can be located at http://www.softwarefreedomday.org
